I pre-played some Sons of P.M. 1960’s modernized Thai music.
Rich – Sun Ra – A cassette rip of Rich’s with a Gilmore feature. As Rich says Gilmore is a favorite, he always takes great solos. Nice electric set up, synth and electric bass and yeah classic raw Jon Gilmore. Turns very pointillistic. The song is called “Of Mythic Worlds”
Nawi – Bo Diddley 1965 – something live… “Hey Bo Diddley”! Man the guitar and the beat just transform the energy around it. Nothing complex but everyone is tearing their hair out. There are waves of screams flowing throughout the audience.
Dan – Graham Central Station – “Hair”. Larry Graham’s bass just vibrates everything and he has a way of building dynamically throughout the tune that is really effective. Sometimes the hits of a band, or artist, obscure some incredible albums and songs.
Matt – Playing some Outer Limits with a few horns. Still can’t decide if I’ve heard it before still…. until definitely Dolphy “Round Midnight” and killing it. Dolphy sounds like screaming hot liquid on alto, just vibrant and real all the time. This is with George Russell which is one of the best places to observe him. Great and weird ending.
Peter – Little Milton – “That’s What Love will Make You Do”. Blues but funky. Catchy and clean – I love the 2nd plucky guitar solo. I used to palm the strings to get that effect on guitar. Also a strong Soul vibe with the horns.
David – Disco! Pretty fun lyrics “Shake those tasty cakes” And pretty spacey guitar and weird song writing turns. Some falsetto vocals gives it a little E, W & F vibe. Cowbell solo and 3, 2, 1 contact guitar sound. Nice break down. Bass forward and has a feeling that there was a “routine” the band were performing to the song – I can picture it. Idris Muhammed “Tasty Cakes”
Travis – Burning right out of the gate. I guess it was a Groove/Free thing tonight. Interesting mix for the evening. Get high and Dance! This is weird, as Travis has been the last few weeks it has very obscure relationship to old and new. Some sounds are very retro but then something comes in which sounds so new that it can’t be an old recording… Or can it? Ancient to the Future. It’s a spitfire – Bart gotta check this out. What!? The guitar has a totally 80’s shredding sound – again twisting what I think this is and too fast! Toshio Matsuura Group – “Kitty Bey”
