Rich  – Craig Taborn – This was played before I arrived and is so new that not all of the tracks are available on youtube and also its an ECM product which is by subscription.

So ”A Code With Spells” is a sample track from the same album.

(10/21/21) High praise for Craig from Rich as we do a little Thursday Night Listening Seshjawn make up so I can hear the actual tune that was played. “Conspiracy of Things” from Taborn’s newest album. Which is a concert from WEIN. I’m trying to figure out which chord progression this reminds me of, perhaps changing between different sections. This is fully in my piano bag.

I’m arriving to the Sesh in the middle of the “Wang Dang Doodle”. I’m not sure, it’s either Bart or Nawi’s choice. I’m saying its Bart and a rousing rendition too! Quality saxophone, lately I have been thinking about the Blues saxophone, a different animal than Jazz playing, and wanting to learn these classic solos and riff patterns. My favorite being the sax in Charles Brown’s “Black Night”. I just love tone. Blues Saxophones is all tone, bends and growls – it’s own Art. Pointer Sisters?! Damn! I never knew about their other vibes. Travis – LOL! “Classic “Bar Fight Music”” and by Nawi.

Travis – Speaking of fat tenor tones this one starts off with that and then veers into some Arabic/Western European Funk Fusion. This should lower the odds of whom is playing it, but there is always the new retro possibility. The sound feels older though, 70’s? Maybe I play the Ray Pizzi tonight? Some weird timings – definitely the second solo section with the slithery keyboard reminds me of an Agent Moosehead/Chris Dippolito penned groove. Weird percussion solo too and fabulous cut off ending! Azmari – “Kamilari”

Dan – Mavis Staples “Time Waits for No One” – This is a kind of random song choice, not one of her early tracks when she is in her prime and crushing every line of a song. Here on this Prince penned track, and with him as a guest performer too, she slays me with her phrasing – it is incredibly Louis Armstrong-ish. The placement of each sound and the stabbing punctuation really bend the beat. Prince mimics this too in his guitar solo. I noticed this song while making a playlist of “Prince Songs Written For Others” and it captured me.

Bart – Dizzy Gillespie – “Swing Low Sweet Cadillac” – Great rendition over an incredibly live beat. Dizzy’s Latin influence is under recognized. In fact the Latin influence on Jazz is generally under recognized. Then it switches into a light perfectly tipping swing and Dizzy’s in all his brightness is clearly having fun. Weird tune though as Bart points out. The vocals veer between some traditional religious chants that may not be supposed to be on record and a sort of silly but wonderful vocal from Dizzy mutating the Chariot to Cadillac. Sort of an amazing timepiece.
