Bart – The “If I were to recommend a great Jazz album to somebody but not Kind of Blue” choice! And honestly one I don’t have, I think. I don’t recognize it at least. Charles Tolliver – “Lil’s Paradise” (full album but @ 25:55). This album, like other Tolliver albums, has been rereleased under different names and I have confusedly avoided picking it up because I thought I already had it. Definitely recognized Gary Bartz but was tricked by Hancock and thought it was Stanley Cowell instead. Doesn’t matter everyone sounds great and this is an unheralded but excellent entry Jazz album with great vitality.

Nawi – Conversation: Travis “It’s fun to listen to Steely Dan and act like an asshole!” Nawi “I did that the other day.” choice. Weird shorty. Quix*O*Tic – “Snowflakes In Your Eyelashes” (full album but @ 18:49). The guitar sound is great but its also untethered and floating, it has a rawness that I associate with grounded styles like Blues. Nawi talks a bunch about the various band relationships of this artist but I’ve never heard of them. Nawi has a deep 90’s  thing happening most of the time.

Travis – The “Something that blew my mind earlier” choice. It also blows my mind. Samples, droned out vocals, and a skittering beat under some flickering keyboard sounds. It sends my mind in all directions at once. I’m wondering what more sounds like? VOICE ACTOR – “Battling Dust”. Travis says its part of a 4 hour long collection? This would be hard to sustain for that length but I’m assuming an eclectic approach for the rest of it.

Dan – Mdou Moctar – “Tarhatazed” – A “Delivers on the energy reward” choice. I’ve been hearing about Mdou giving great performances with a similar vibe to Ali Farka Toure. It does give me that vibe, but the songs are more Pop influenced and he gets to some intense highs that remind me more of Hendrix. This song delivers a lot of those peak moments.
