Bart – Is playing some Country Finger Picking. Could be a Carter thing, the harmony voice sounds a little like June. It’s an interesting blend, the harmony voice is brighter than the lead and it creates a nice contrast. Also the harmony voice is recessed in the recording as if heard from far away. Hazel & Alice – “A Tiny Broken Heart” – Sometimes a Seshjawn play is something new and unheard, sometimes it is revealing something unheard and lost in the past, this is a great example of the later. Folkways is pretty much completely reliable, up there with Blue Note, Fania, Mosaic and Mr. Bongo!
Travis – Some Iggy sounding like Zappa! The repetitive figures sound like a Gabriel via Bowie idea and then some thoroughly modern guitar washes over the whole thing. Wild mix. Iggy is more than just a stunning performer, all of his Music has a certain sound to it and I refuse to believe he just stumbles across that sound continuously. This is from the album “The Idiot” and think people think of Iggy like a child who performs with abandon. Different band members, different eras, but still unmistakably Ig. Iggy Pop – “Sister Midnight”
Dan – LCD Soundsystem – “New Body Rhumba” – I heard this on radio on the way to Delaware to have my horns repaired a few weeks ago. And I found myself saying “I never thought I would like LCD Soundsystem” it was a name and perception thing. Apparently Bart had the same thing happen but watching this song played live on SNL. I particularly trip on the “Bono” section in the second half of the tune.
