Travis – A Winter song. My own play is going to be timely too. This starts out dark. I think it matches my mood well. I’m not sure who it is but the arrangement feels like an 80’s Elvis Costello or Leonard Cohen vibe. A really inappropriate synth sound which still evokes noir films and private investigators, lost loves. The trumpet sounds like it is coming from across the street. Definitely matches my day after Christmas mood. I’m wondering who it is – harrowing. Blue Nile – “From a Late Night Train”

Dan – Edmar Castaneda – “Jesuz de Nazareth” – I’ve been recently attracted to Harp music from South America and then heard Edmar, blowing minds with a Harmonica player, on someone’s feed. Then, attracted to the colors of these Harp strings, decided to give track this a listen and to say it simply – the Art Tatum, or Jaco, of the Harp! This track feels like a moment captured: the space, the song, his playing the colors and the vibrations of the strings are in Harmony.

Matt – Adrianne Lenker – “Anything” – Fragile, but it matches the tone of this Seshjawn. I like the play in her lyrics, they kind of flip the meanings of things depending on where the words are placed. She has a gentle delivery and everything played tonight has felt wintery so far. Everyone else seems to know about her, I guess I need to find out.

Nawi – “I don’t know what it is or even what it sounds like…. I emailed myself the link, I don’t even know, it could even be from one of you guys..” Always a possibility at a Seshjawn, I’ve been there myself. But the time capsule “note to self” song usually doesn’t fail. And this hits a category I’ve been into lately: North African/Middle Eastern Rock/Pop and Jazz mixes. Not too wintery… There is visceral scream (instrumental I think) midway thru that is just so raw it makes your toes curl. Saxophone possibly. I think this is newer but I’ve been checking into things from the mid-60s and there is more history than one thinks of this kind of mash up. This also gives me the Mdou Moctar vibes, which I love. The sax is definitely essential to this mix. Ahmed Ag Kaedy – “Alghafiat” (Live at Kaschemme, Basel)
