Travis – “This one track is really nice” – Pointillistic Piano. Incredible restraint and I take pleasure in the gently unfolding the melody. It grooves really hard all the while. I do keep expecting more but this is enough if nothing else arrives. But it does arrive. Each fold unfurling. And by the end we have something totally new. Duval Timothy – “Ball” On a sad, and hopefully, temporary note, Travis will be working during seshjawns for the foreseeable future. But he pauses as he has persisted with something fresh and intriguing that I haven’t heard before.
Bart – Tom Petty – “American Girl” Live 1978 Midnight Special (@ the 17 minute mark) – Weird, I was just thinking about Tom Petty, yet also a little surprised to hear him at a seshjawn – but I’m into it. I just was saying, earlier today, how it’s been about 3 years of Seshjawns and I’ve infrequently heard anything I had already heard before. Usually when I do it is in acknowledgement of some brilliance, or sentimental song hole we have been dropped into. And this song can fit both those bills. Good song. It is amazing to think about how many hundreds of song played at seshjawns that are new to me, that’s why I keep up with it.
Dan – A Peter Gabriel talk turns into a two-fer. “Modern Love” Pete’s American Rocker and “Come Talk to Me” from US that Travis doesn’t remember liking, but I have affection for the album, both from when it came out and then again recently. But it’s covered in layers which the Seshjawn listen illuminates and really too many layers. Listening with the Seshjawn cats is different and reveals a scrutiny that I don’t use in my own listening time. This song probably falls deep into my guilty pleasure list. Though Tony Levin and Sinead O’Connor win my heart every time. And the lyrics send me. “Modern Love” has an amazing groove and made me feel like all the 70’s Singer Songwriters were getting artistic control and copying each others styles – ML being PG’s Springsteen/Petty like rocker.PG is coming to Philly soon and I’m debating attending, whose going?
Nawi – The Van Pelt – “We Gotta Leave” This sounds good. I think Nawi said its new and it sounds newly recorded, but the sound reminds of the late 80’s/early 90’s too. Maybe something from an Englishman in the 80’s gazing off a cliff. Cool song and a friend of Nawi’s so extra props for that.
