Travis – Really vibrational and resonant. There is sort of a formlessness that reminds me of the Nakatani Gong Orchestra but using the harmonics and voices gives it a different sense of layering. It also reminds me a little of Arthur Russell’s World of Echo. Those are 2 pretty esoteric sound connections to make and this is pretty unique and individual. Apparently a reprise of Ruth Goller – “Reach Down Into the Deepest White”, which was a 3rd reference I thought, but couldn’t remember her name. Solid recommendation for a new album to have 2 Seshjawn plays in about a month,

Bart – Night Music #201 – Stevie Ray Vaughn – “Crossfire” – A Sanborn adjacent Seshjawn play by Bart. Night Music was such a gift and I do recall some of the performances from catching them on TV. This one included. I definitely had a SRV thing at that time, I was playing guitar then and I can still sing along to the whole song. Bart remarks about how thrilled Hiram Bullock seems to be playing with SRV despite playing the same part over and over again. Stevie was amazing!

Nawi – Nawi gives us a Steve Albini tribute and breaks the record for most plays. (I think, 3 has been the max. Others, myself included, have played longer tracks than these 4 combined.) – Big Black – “Passing Complexion”, “The Model”, Shellac – “Prayer To God”, “New Number Order” – I am more aware of Albini from his engineering, but I am familiar with these bands generally. It’s a good collection of tunes with a certain high quality energy and truth to all. Really any Seshjawn seems to have memorial candidate plays, but in every case I can remember it is from one of us who really is a fan of the artist and they offer a genuine tribute.

Dan – Sons of Kemet – “My Queen is Doreen Lawrence” – I enjoy this SoK album best of the ones I’ve heard. I appreciate them as a Modern Improvisational Reggae/AfroBeat/Soul Jazz group and this track really hits those vibes in a fresh manner. The lyrical component is powerful, which can often be the weak part of the equation when it is combined with improv. Another plus is the tuba crushing it throughout.
