Travis – This track confesses its newness by its metric feel, but it still has some sonic references too older music. The Bell Orchestre – “V. Movement” Initially it feels like something ambient, but with a too busy beat. The keyboard sounds are new with old flavors, they sound too clear to be truly of an earlier time. The brass and the late vocals reinforce the sounds of older things, but in layers that wouldn’t really happen in the recordings from the 70’s. It has some really amazing atmospheric vistas, particularly created by the spacey drums and the viciously abrupt ending.

Bart – I may have played this before? I think he did but it’s a solid vibe that can survive a second play. Cymande – “Zion I”. Groovy, simple and a bringer of a warm mood. Bart also plays No Doubt – “Spiderwebs” to point out the excellent production, after a discussion about Ska groups. I don’t like No Doubt, or the slickness of their Ska/Pop sound, but he is correct about the quality of the recording.

Dan – Billy Harper – “Is It Not True Simply Because You Cannot Believe It” – I’m going to see Billy perform this album on 12/17/24 at Solar Myth. i’m very excited, Billy is one of my favorite saxophonists. I had an opportunity to perform with him about 15 years ago, present him at a festival I produced and also saw him perform a few years ago at Montgomery County Community College. He also writes damn fine compositions: spiritual, uplifting, naturally observant of the sound of a saxophone and soulful. I’m excited! This song I am more familiar with from the album “Great Friends” ,but this version seems to be the original and is a hot one.
