Bart – A forgotten classic. Not so much for me, as I don’t recognize it. Talking Heads – “The Overload” Weird intro and I am not as familiar with all of the Talking Heads releases. I definitely did not initially vibe with their jerky rhythmic feel in their 80’s years and I think I understand them better now. I recognize their influences and style with a stiff Funk and International musical influences. Bart recalls he heard this recently on a mix while having dinner at a friend’s with esoteric tastes. It’s definitely not dinner music. Ominous after dinner music? It’s got a lot of build up in it too, but doesn’t really arrive anywhere. Definitely late night driving music for me.

Dan – Neil Young – “Albuquerque” – This song, from my favorite Neil album (most of the time) Tonight’s the Night is haunting and I’ve contemplated creating an arrangement for my groups. I also contemplated bringing it to a Sesh, but I usually feel Classic Rock is too obvious a selection for the Seshjawn menu. Bart and I have been jinxing each other lately and when I sent a reminder, because my Messenger wasn’t working, I said tonight’s the night and decided it was also the night for this song. The melody when he sings “Albuquerque” is really unique, long for most melodies, I love how he conceived it. The album overall is so dark, intimately conceived and raw I recommend it – because most of the Sesh folks are unfamiliar?!

Raiz de Pedra – “Periscopio” – A Brazilian fusion band I discovered recently and was impressed with both their sound designs, in the 70’s, and musicianship. I have been meaning to play it for Travis for about a month but he’s been sleepy Trav missing the last few meetings. This track shows off their strengths, but other longer ones from this live album reach higher points of intensity with striking guitar and drum work.
Nawi – Some trashy sounds here! I like it when guitars sound like a swarm of bees.

Polvo – “Shiksa” then “Beggars Bowl” I guess this is a different song by the same group. Really interesting sonically. Heavy but sparse. I feel like I should know the voice. And I love all the swirling textures in this mix, a very rich mix. Nawi pays me back with a group I am unfamiliar with, Travis, of course, is familiar with them. Fun stuff!

Travis – Hot Spanish guitar. Matias Arriazu – “Nitsuga” – This is relatively recent and I really enjoy hearing newer recording artists working in traditional styles. It is interesting to contemplate their contemporary and traditional influences. Deciding where each aspect is drawn from and viewing it within their musicianship is a favorite experience for me. I’m unfamiliar with Matias but impressed.
