Play List

Travis – Heavy head bobbing hippies. Pretty, intensely hypnotizing. I think there is recorder playing in there somewhere and some of it reminds me of the Moody Blues but with a trippy, loop from a different century. Silver Apples – “Seagreen Serenades” – It isn’t (or I guess it is), it’s from 1968, which makes it sound significantly ahead of its birth date! Without the vocals I may never have guessed the time period, with the vocals I thought that it was influenced by the 60’s. The loop in Popular music isn’t typical for that time period, though there are some interesting sound collage experiments going on. That’s a good Travis elusive discovery, his specialty.

Dan – Paco de Lucía – “Palenque” – I have come across some interesting Flamenco “+” recordings of late: a different Paco De Lucia recording with a choir, performing a mass and a Flamenco singer creating a suite for the Roma people. This features a smoking working band, which has a Flamenco/Jazz Fusion type of sound, and a particularly slick/sick bassist: Carles Benavent! It’s pretty intricate and the acoustic/electric mix has a different sound. I’ve been holding this one for a Travis night! And you know I am into the conceptual design, and this has a distinct sound with intense musicianship.
