Bart – Joe Cocker – Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour “The Letter” – Bart had brought up this band a few weeks ago. He believes its one of the best rock bands of their day, despite a particularly short existence. I didn’t really realize it was a live concept or a Big Band (20 pieces), nor did I understand that it was a band name or that they existed for 1, 48 month tour. It is interesting to me that all this could happen, I agree with Bart it’s exciting music and I could see why after 3-6 months of this “musical party” that Joe Cocker would’ve needed a long break. Bart’s been in a bag of old classic material for a few Seshjawns and it is nice to reflect on familiar music with the different perspectives that he investigates.

Dan – Earl Hines – “Bernie’s Tune” – From a later recording (1966) featuring an intergenerational all-star trio with Richard Davis and Elvin Jones– reminiscent of Money Jungle, but not as well known. It is strange to imagine Mr. Hines as the same person to record masterpieces with Louis Armstrong or lead one of the first Bop Big Bands in the 40’s, but being modernistic doesn’t really grow out of you I guess. The recording is really crisp and Hines’ language is rich and daring, some of his runs surprise you when they arrive where they are going. It swings hard and all the instruments have great clarity. We listen twice!

Additionally, we need American accountability! This government is full of lies, fraud, illegal acts and is destroying the ways of American life. Every day there are too many failures not being accounted for, we must resist, we must remove and punish them.
