Hello,
I’m Daniel T. Peterson.
My business Found Sounds was created in 2018. It links my Music, Education, Research and Composition backgrounds into one space.
I live in Philadelphia and have performed here since 1998.
Over the years I have been blessed to perform with many of my heroes Odean Pope, Dave Burrell, Billy Harper, Bobby Zankel, Oliver Lake, Rudresh Mahanthappah, Marty Erhlich, Muhal Richard Abrams and Steve Coleman to name a few.
I love creative music and performing within community based projects.
I try to create interesting, multi-dimensional musical events, often mixing them with educational threads.
I have taught music in classrooms for around 15 years including grade schools, private and group instrumental lessons and college courses at Rowan University and Berkeley College.
Currently I am a Music Teacher in the School District of Philadelphia.
I received my MA in Jazz History & Research from Rutgers University in 2015 and my Bachelors in Jazz Performance – saxophone from Temple University in 2005.
My graduate thesis at Rutgers was A Chronology of Long Form Jazz Compositions and I have worked on a lot of self interest based studies like a deep study on Mary Lou Williams’s Zodiac Suite.
Composition is a favorite endeavor and I’ve recorded 4 albums of original material and received several grants for new music based projects.
Additionally I have curated and produced many events, festivals and artistic showcases for a wide variety of projects.
I welcome interest in performances, lessons, research or writing and orchestration.
