I just finished watching the full length director’s cut of the Wim Wenders film “Until the End of the World“.
I had never checked out that version, only the 2.5 hour original release in the theater.
It is a really unusual work of speculative fiction and is worth the time, 4.5 hours, to take a worldly, Sci Fi road trip film!
The film is available at Criterion.
Besides being a visionary film it also has one of the amazing & legendary soundtracks.
Watching it made me think about my favorite soundtracks and what makes one good and is it only good with the movie?
Here are some of my favorite soundtracks, in no particular order. There are some scores, music films & musicals on this list, but those would also have their own specific lists.
I guess these choices mean I return to them and listen to them without watching the film itself, and also doesn’t mean I necessarily love the films, though in most cases I do.
What are yours? (Post a title & link in the comments + maybe why you like it?)
The Graduate, soundtrack by Simon and Garfunkel.

A great list, indeed, Daniel. You have included many of my favs, but not my #1 and #2: Ennio Morricone’s luscious score to Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in the West” https://youtu.be/oiKtsOCP6Hc
and the equally luscious Gato Barbieri/Oliver Nelson music for Bertolucci’s “Last Tango in Paris” https://youtu.be/Z8dPNHriiZA
