Dan – Ray Pizzi – “Conception” – Swanky fusion with a couple layers of cheese. Very Rock Jazz vibe but great playing, nice guitar work, perhaps even dueling. Pizzi definitely has a great thing going as a saxophonist, and lays it out there in his solo. Very cool effects, put to good use, at the end. I think he plays bassoon on this too.
Rich – Dueling “Komuz Vs Dombra 2011” The Bomb. These two are hamming it up in the best way. There are some weird distortion moments which I can’t figure out, but they rule in a Metal type of way. The audience is interesting too, sort of well dressed but for a wrestling type of event? I’d love to know what is traditional here versus what is pushing contemporary fun.
Travis – I would call this 80’s & weird (it was a choice Travis offered us but seems both to me). Lingering Disco influences with a sleek Disco groove. I could hear this falling in with an early Hip Hop dance party play list. Those musician’s skills are under regarded, so clean and creating a bouncy feeling is challenging. Felt like it has as much cheese as my Ray Pizzi did. Haircut 100 – “Lemon Firebrigade”
